guess which is the lace I crocheted, and which are the ones made by my grandmothers!

I keep on thinking of thin needles and hooks. I haven't used either for a very long time.
When I was a teen-ager I was hooked on :) lace crochet.
In late 70's duvet covers were taking over, but most every family still had flat sheets. I remember we had plenty - my mom's dowry and the ones passed down from grandmothers. The dowry was usually 12 sheets with lace inserts, the same amount plus a couple more for bottom sheets. You counted two pillow cases per bed, one with lace insert, one without, and doubled that amount. Then you crocheted lace for them, often two pieces for a nice sheet or pillow case, one for a regular. And let me add, the more complicated the better!
I had these romantic notions of a full dowry chest, and duly tried to crochet lace for a set of sheets and cases, but I couldn't manage such evenness and fineness. And my fingertips were chafed and hurting, so I gave up. I don't think I'd do it again, though. More's the pity, for they are simply lovely!
